Terror of moneylenders: Demand of 60 lakhs on a debt of 20 lakhs: Farmer from Nagarasan village was taken to a farm house and beaten up, police action initiated
The cruelty of usurers on a farmer from Nagarasan village: Demanding 60 lakhs out of a loan of 20 lakhs, beaten up and admitted to the hospital
A farmer from Nagarasan village in Kadi taluka of Gujarat, Nagjibhai Gohil, has been subjected to cruelty by usurers. The accused demanded 60 lakhs including interest for a loan of 20 lakhs taken from two relatives from Irana village, and kidnapped Nagjibhai, beat him up and took him to the hospital. The police have registered a case against the accused and started an investigation.
Details of the incident:
1. Debt and threat: Nagjibhai had taken 20 lakhs from two brothers from Irana village on interest. Accused Jayeshbhai and Devrajbhai Rabari called him through Rajubhai of Digdi and forcefully demanded, "Pay 60 lakhs including interest."
2. Kidnapping and beating: On June 26, Nagjibhai was taken from Irana bus stand to a farmhouse and beaten to death with a stick and an iron pipe. When his relatives came to know about it, they reached the farmhouse, rescued him and admitted him to Bhagyoday Hospital.
3. Police action: Nandasan police investigated the incident and registered a case under sections 323 (assault), 324 (wounding with deadly weapon), 384 (extortion), and 506 (threat) of the IPC. Action is being taken to arrest the accused.
Legal aspects:
Indian Penal Code (IPC):
Sections 323 and 324: Assault and grievous hurt.
Section 384: Extortion by extortion.
Section 34: Crime with common intention.
Gujarat Money Lenders Act, 2011:
If the accused have committed unregistered usury or have charged interest above the legal percentage, they can be arrested. The court can exempt the debtor from paying more than the principal amount + 1012% interest.
Victim's rights:
Nagjibhai can get help under the "Gujarat Victim Compensation Scheme".
Free legal aid can be taken from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
Widespread problem in society:
This incident paints a grim picture of usury and exploitation of farmers in rural Gujarat. Instead of loans from banks and cooperative societies, poor farmers go to illegal moneylenders, where interest of up to 3040% is charged. According to a 2021 RBI report, 28% of farmers in Gujarat are in debt, of which 65% take loans from unregistered moneylenders.
Next steps:
Nagjibhai and the police need to collect loan documents, bank transactions and evidence of threats (like phone call recordings).
The state government needs to run an “anti-usury awareness campaign” in rural areas, connecting farmers with cooperative banks.
Conclusion:
Nagjibhai Gohil’s incident is not just an isolated one – it symbolises the suffering of millions of farmers suffering from exploitation in rural Gujarat. The police and judiciary should give strict punishment to the accused, sending a message to the society that “usury” is not just a crime, but a crime against humanity.

Farmer's son who went to America missing for two years: Deal worth ₹75 lakh, kept in touch from Mehsana till he reached Dominica; Family waiting for son after seeing list of deportees
The craze to go to America from Gujarat's Mehsana district: The disappearance of a youth from Heduva village, Sudhir Patel, raises questions
Mehsana, Gujarat: The craze to go abroad is increasing at an alarming rate across the country, including Gujarat. The number of people who want to go to America is the highest. The disappearance of a youth from Heduva village, Sudhir Patel, from Mehsana district, is a testament to the serious consequences of this craze. Sudhir, who left for America two years ago after spending ₹75 lakh, is still missing, while his family's hopes are now linked to the list of people who have been deported from America and are returning.
Background: Dreams and relative exploitation
Sudhir Patel (27) used to run a hotel in Heduva village. Dreaming of settling in America, he contacted "pigeon" agents. The agents promised to take him illegally to America for ₹75 lakh by giving false assurances of a work permit and a job. Sudhir sold the family land and gave an advance of ₹10 lakh, and in 2022, he left Mumbai for Dominica (a transit country) with 8 other young men and women. However, after reaching Dominica, he lost contact.
Family's anguish: "No phone for a year, but no hope"
Sudhir's brother Ravi Patel says, "The agents had asked to arrange a train from Dominica to America. The last time Sudhir called and said, 'Brother, now the further journey is dangerous', then he went missing." The family has filed a complaint against the agents with the Mehsana police, but the action is slow. Currently, they are monitoring the list of people deported from America.
Agents' tricks: How do they trap the youth?
1. False promises: Showing illegal routes in the name of "work permit", "student visa" or "tourism".
2. Transit trap: Promises to cross the US border by countries like Dominica, Mexico, Canada.
3. Heavy fees: Demands ranging from ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore, in which the amount is extorted indirectly.
Impact on society: Risk and warning
- Fear of human trafficking: Missing youth sometimes fall prey to human trafficking gangs.
- Financial insolvency: Families sell land, houses, gold, as a result they sink into debt.
- Government measures: Gujarat police have run campaigns like "Dream Migration", but the business of agents continues.
Expert opinion
Migration expert Dr. Mahesh Patel says, "The green card lottery in America and the 'success stories' seen on social media deceive the youth. When in reality, in 90% of cases they become victims of exploitation or deportation."
The family's last hope
Sudhir's mother Kantaben, sitting on the sidewalk waiting for flights from America, says, "If my son is alive, he will definitely come back. The government should catch these agents and save such youth."
---
Conclusion: Sudhir Patel's story shows the ferocity of the indiscriminate desire to go abroad in the villages of Gujarat. Such cases are a warning to the youth and their families to be careful and adopt legal channels. However, government awareness and strict action are responsible for avoiding the trap of agents.

Devotee dedicates his twin sons to God at Tarabh Walinath Dham in Visnagar: Know the full story
My vow and pledge
"I promised Lord Walinath: If you give me two sons, I will dedicate one to you!" These are the words of Ketan Desai, a devotee from Jaska village in Vadnagar taluka, who made this vow during the Pranpratishtha Mahotsav of Tarabh Walinath Dham in February 2023. Ketanbhai already had a daughter, but longing for two sons, he made a vow to God: "If two sons are born to me by February 22, 2025, I will dedicate one at your feet!"
Vow fulfilled: Birth of twin sons
Twin sons were born to Ketanbhai's house in Pushya Nakshatra on January 14, 2024. Considering this incident as the grace of Lord Valinath, Ketanbhai decided to keep his promise. On the auspicious day of Mahashivratri (26 February 2024), he reached the temple with his family and villagers and offered his elder son Vedansh at the feet of God. The younger son was named Vedant. The temple's Mahant Jayaramgiri Bapu named both the children and completed the religious rituals.
The child's future: Education and service in the Gurukul
Mahant Jayaramgiri Bapu clarified: "Vedansh will spend his life in the temple's Gurukul. Here he will get education from primary to 12th standard. After that, he will be sent to Rishikesh or Kashi to study Sanskrit. After completing his education, he will serve as a religious preacher of the temple." This type of tradition is known as "child donation" in Hinduism, where the child is dedicated to the path of devotion and knowledge.
Speciality of the temple: Gujarat's second largest Shivdham
- Architecture: This temple, measuring 101 feet high, 265 feet long and 165 feet wide, is built in Nagar style with stones from Bansipahadpur.
- Consecration: The Shivling was consecrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 12.39 pm (Muhurta) from 16 to 22 February 2024.
- Religious importance: Famous as the second largest Shiv temple in Gujarat after Somnath. The center of faith of the Rabari community and more than 1000 devotees visit every day.
Family spirit: "If God kept his promise, I too kept it!"
Ketanbhai said with emotion: "When Modiji inaugurated the temple, I prayed in my mind: 'Hey Valinath! I have one daughter, but if you give me two sons, I will donate one to you.' Today, I am blessed to have handed over Vedas to God, who fulfilled my wish." Family members and villagers celebrated this unique event joyfully, considering it a "miraculous grace" of God.
A confluence of culture and faith
Such events in the religious land of Gujarat show the depth of devotion and culture. Traditions like "child donation" are a living example of a person's self-surrender to God. Tarbh Valinath Dham has now become not only a place of worship, but also the center of faith of devotees who follow their faith and vows.
Summary:
- Why? Devotee Ketan Desai sought the blessings of two sons and offered one.
- When? On the day of Mahashivratri (26 February 2024).
- How? The child was dedicated to education and service in the temple's Gurukul.
- Significance: A unique event in the religious history of Gujarat and a story of the victory of faith.

Congress National Convention to be held in Gujarat after 64 years: AICC leaders from across the country including Rahul Gandhi-Sonia Gandhi will be present, Mallikarjun Kharge will chair the meeting
The Indian National Congress (INC) is planning to hold its All India Congress Committee (AICC) session in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on April 8 and 9, 2025. This session will be held in Gujarat after 64 years since the session held in Bhavnagar in 1961. In this session, AICC representatives from across the country will gather and discuss the continuous attacks on the Constitution and its values, the anti-people policies of the BJP and the direction for the party's future work will be determined.
The Congress has not been able to capture Gujarat for almost 30 years and despite the party's many efforts, it has not been successful in every election. Recently, the municipal elections were held in Gujarat, in which the Congress has failed. Now the Congress has already started preparing for the elections under Mission-2027.
The visits of top Congress leaders to Gujarat have also increased. Gujarat Congress leaders say that Rahul Gandhi had challenged the BJP to defeat Gujarat last year. At that time, he had said in Parliament, "You write it down, this time we will defeat you in Gujarat." The opposition India alliance will defeat the BJP in Gujarat.
The session will begin on April 8 with a meeting of the expanded Congress Working Committee (CWC), which will be followed by a meeting of AICC representatives on April 9. Honorable Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will preside over both these meetings, and Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, all Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, national office bearers, senior leaders and other AICC representatives will be present.
This AICC session is being held as a continuation of the resolution passed in the expanded CWC meeting (New Satyagraha meeting) held in Belagavi, which was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Congress session in which Mahatma Gandhi assumed the presidency in 1924.
The Congress session was held in Bhavnagar in 1961. Since Gujarat is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, every election here is important. In such a situation, the Congress feels that if it wants to move forward, it will have to defeat the BJP in Gujarat. The Congress will prepare a program for the next two years in a month or two.
The Congress has been out of power in Gujarat since 1995. The BJP has been winning more than 100 seats in the Gujarat assembly elections held after 1995. In the 2017 elections, Congress stopped BJP's victory chariot at 99 seats. In 2022, BJP got 53 percent votes and won 148 seats. Congress could win only 17 seats. Now Congress has started preparing to bring its good days in Gujarat.

At the same time, regarding the evils of alcohol, Shankarsinh Vaghela, former Chief Minister of Gujarat, told the media during his visit to Rajkot, “In Gujarat, alcohol is consumed not only by the Patidar community, but also by other communities. In many places, sisters also drink alcohol. Bapu has called the prohibition law in Gujarat wrong.” They said that this law cannot be completely successful in Gujarat due to the prohibition of alcohol in neighboring states.
These statements made by Vaghela have particularly highlighted social and cultural issues. They indicated that to maintain the religious and social values of the country, it is necessary for people to improve their internal morality and take appropriate steps against unnecessary external activities.
MPs and the political opposition have reacted strongly to these statements. Some opposition leaders have said that such statements are an obstacle to the internal peace and harmony of the society. Such discussions are also seen in local body elections, regarding which both the dominance and competition of the ruling party are considered natural.
Through this incident and statements, the discussion about internal reforms, social values and legal processes is increasing among the people of Gujarat. It is important that local government and related departments take appropriate steps to resolve these issues.

52nd mass marriage ceremony in Nani Kadi, Kadi taluka: Nitin Patel takes a dig at the government and Congress
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel made an important statement during the 52nd mass marriage ceremony of 72 Kadva Patidar Chunwal Samaj in Nani Kadi area of Kalol taluka. On this occasion, he highlighted many things, which included taking a dig at the government's successes as well as the Congress' failures.
Nitin Patel said in the statement, "Today our state is auspicious. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the world's largest and tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which is a symbol of national unity and pride for us. Now, this statue is used as a gift in various ceremonies, which is a new strength for all of us."
He says that the previous Congress government used to gift the guests a statue of Sidi Syed, which has no connection with the culture of Gujarat. Now that the Prime Minister of the country is giving the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai, an attempt has been made to awaken the true tradition and eternal values of Gujarat.
Nitin Patel said during the event, "We have started moving in a fresh and new direction. We believe that both Gaumata and Rashtra Mata should be recognized for their contribution and efforts for the development of the country."
In his confrontation on this occasion, he clearly said, "We are now preserving its character, and the controversial activities of the old objection have to be resolved immediately."
Amid this statement and controversy, many leaders from the political and social sectors have given their different responses on this issue. BJP leaders said that through such statues and gifts, we get a new glimpse of unity, while opposition leaders have clearly expressed their opposition to this.
These ceremonies and statements are an attempt to strengthen the country's democracy, unity and culture, which both political parties and the community seem to consider important.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States, he held a meeting with President Donald Trump, where discussions included the US offering India the F-35 fighter jet. However, India later declined the offer, citing ongoing tariff negotiations, as clarified by the Indian Foreign Ministry.
The meeting drew a cautious response from China, which urged that bilateral cooperation between the US and India should not target third parties. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang emphasized that the Asia-Pacific region should prioritize peaceful development over geopolitical rivalry. He stressed that the Indo-Pacific should remain "free, open, inclusive, and beneficial for all," indirectly referencing concerns about US-India collaboration impacting regional dynamics.
The backdrop includes longstanding US-China trade tensions under Trump and strained India-China relations due to border disputes and strategic disagreements. China’s reaction reflects unease over deepening US-India defense ties, viewing it as part of broader geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific.
